What is 22 Lynx
22 Lyncis is an F-type star some 66 light-years away, a distance that places it among the Sun s relatively nearby neighbours. It shines at magnitude 5.35 within Lynx, the modern constellation Hevelius drew up to fill a near-empty patch of sky between the Great Bear and the Charioteer. Its yellowish light, slightly warmer than pure white, takes barely two human generations to reach us.
Where it is and when to see it
22 Lynx lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
