It glitters white-blue in Puppis, the stern of the old Argo Navis, about 1,032 light years away. Its light set out around the 11th century, when the Normans were conquering southern Italy and Persian astronomers were refining the Toledan Tables. B-type, its scorching surface radiates an almost diamond-like bluish white. A youthful spark traveling from so far to set its glow on the carved constellations of the southern sky.

HIP 36143 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
