What is HIP 35998

On the back of Canis Major shines a yellow-white F-type star about 116 light-years away. Its light set out around 1909, the year Peary and Henson reached —by their account— the North Pole and the radio began to bind continents. Hotter and whiter than the Sun, it vibrates with a clear timbre, almost like a bell, beside the great dog star.

HIP 35998 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
