What is HIP 35181
At 751 light years in the Stern, this orange K-type star appears at magnitude 5.64 at the edge of human vision. Its light departed around 1275, when Marco Polo was still travelling the routes of central Asia towards the Mongol court. The warm tone of K stars marks them as bodies that have left behind the first fervour of youth and mature slowly, radiating a less dazzling but more persistent glow than that of the hottest stars.

HIP 35181 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
