What is Psi 7 Aurigae
Psi-7 Aurigae is one of the Psi flock that the Charioteer drives across the northern winter skies. It is an orange K-type giant some 379 light-years away —an aged star swollen after leaving behind the steady fusion of hydrogen in its core. It shines near Capella, the bright she-goat the ancients pictured upon the celestial driver's shoulder.
Where it is and when to see it
Psi 7 Aurigae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is January: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
