What is 32 Andromedae
32 Andromedae shines some 355 light-years away, in the figure of the chained princess of the autumn sky. It is a yellow G-class star —the same spectral family as the Sun— but no longer a youthful dwarf: its atmosphere has swollen to more than ten times the solar diameter. A monumental, aged version of the Sun, seen across three and a half centuries of luminous travel.
Where it is and when to see it
32 Andromedae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
