Andromeda holds more than its famous galaxy: it also houses this yellow G-type star, a distant kin of the Sun, lying 212 light-years away. Its light left the surface around 1814, the year Stephenson was rolling his first steam locomotive over English rails. That sunlike glow has traveled the entire industrial age to appear tonight at a barely visible magnitude of 5.31.
