Hot blue starIts story
72 Orionis blazes 523 light-years away, in a region of Orion crowded with young, hot stars. It is a blue-white B-type, one of those stellar furnaces whose surface vastly exceeds the Sun's temperature. Modest to the naked eye, it nevertheless belongs to Orion's great nursery, where the winter sky packs more massive stars and glowing nebulae than nearly any other constellation.
