It set out when the legions of the Western Roman Empire were vanishing under Odoacer and Rome was changing hands. Its glow swells and fades like breath: sometimes sharper, sometimes more veiled, in a slow rhythm that astronomy measures in days.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 26063 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
