Hot blue starIts story
55 Orionis is a blue B-type star about 1049 light-years away, in the rich territory of the Hunter where hot, young stars cluster thickly. It is also catalogued as an infrared source with mild variability; its brightness hovers right at the edge of unaided sight. Its light departed around the year 1000, crossing the late Middle Ages, the Renaissance and modernity before touching our instruments.
