Its story
5 Geminorum is an orange-red giant some 568 light-years away, nested within the winter sky's Twins. K-class and cool by stellar standards —barely warm enough to tint the sky a muted orange— it pulls away from us at about twelve kilometres per second. Its magnitude 5.83 places it at the very edge of what the naked eye can catch under truly dark skies; in a lit city, it vanishes beyond recall.
