Variable starIts story
In Monoceros, the modest unicorn beside Orion, beats a blue B-type variable whose light has been on the road for 1,315 years. It set out around the year 700, before Charlemagne was born and as Arab astronomers were beginning to inherit Greek knowledge. Its brightness ripples very faintly —a reminder that not even blue furnaces remain identical to themselves.
