Variable starIts story
36 Aurigae burns far away, about 1,157 light-years within the Charioteer. A hot, powerful B-type star, blue in colour, with a slightly variable brightness —a gentle pulsation revealed only by photometry. When its light first set out for Earth, Europe had barely raised the first mechanical clock worthy of the name.
