A cool red giant in Auriga, the charioteer. Its light has been crossing the galaxy for 746 years: it set off when Dante Alighieri was conceiving the Divine Comedy and the Black Death had not yet reached Europe. An M-class star, dilated and reddish, it offers the deep glow of an object that has entered its mature age, far more voluminous than the Sun.

HIP 26344 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
