Variable starIts story
137 Tauri is a variable blue B-type star around 424 light-years away in Taurus, not far from the open cluster of the Hyades. Its light shifts with the small variations typical of hot B-type stars that rotate quickly. The beam reaching us tonight set out near the close of the sixteenth century, when Tycho Brahe was honing his instruments at Uraniborg to chart the sky with the greatest precision ever attained before the telescope.
