57 Tauri lies 149 light-years away, within the field of the Hyades, the open cluster closest to the Solar System. It is a yellow-white F-type star, mildly variable and hotter than the Sun. Anyone pointing at Taurus on a winter night finds in this region a dense swarm of sibling stars, born some 600 million years ago from the same cloud.

57 Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
