What is Omicron Aurigae
Another white star in Auriga, 413 light-years away, in the Charioteer's constellation that rises over the winter horizon with dazzling Capella as its central jewel. Its light set out in the early modern era and has crossed a fragment of our galactic arm before reaching us. It is an A-type star: hydrogen burning at high temperature, untroubled by the complications of an aged giant — a stable flame in a secondary corner of the figure's classical outline.
Where it is and when to see it
Omicron Aurigae lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
