In the celestial chariot of Auriga shines a white A-class star, hotter and more luminous than the Sun, lying nearly three hundred light-years away. The light that draws it in the winter sky set out when the first reflecting telescopes were being assembled in English workshops and Kepler's laws were being debated in European courts. Its crystalline, almost bluish tone belongs to young stars still living the stable phase of hydrogen fusion.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 25143 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
