Variable starIts story
In the celestial charioteer Auriga, some 563 light-years away, lives this red giant of type M, variable and ancient. Its light set out around 1463, when Gutenberg had already changed the world and the first printed books travelled across Europe like seeds. Cooler but immensely larger than the Sun, it modulates its brightness like a heartbeat keeping time with the slow tempo of ageing stars.
