In the Hare, 147 light years away, this yellow-white F-type star shines at magnitude 5.78. Its light set out around 1879, the year Edison lit his first practical bulb at Menlo Park. Like other F stars, it is somewhat hotter and more luminous than the Sun and forms that middle band where astronomy often looks for potentially temperate rocky worlds, in habitable zones wider than the solar one.

HIP 25397 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky.
