What is HIP 22699
A white A-type star shines coolly within the constellation of Auriga, the ancient celestial charioteer. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, its light began travelling some four and a half centuries ago, when Tycho Brahe was building Uraniborg and recording the heavens with unprecedented precision. After 453 light-years of silent journey, its bluish-white glow arrives tonight, faithful messenger of an age in which patience and instruments first joined to measure what lay above.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 22699 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
