A red giant in Taurus at 2,330 light-years —one of the farthest in this batch. Its light departed around 296 BCE, when Euclid was drafting the «Elements» in Alexandria and founding geometry as a discipline. While humans were discovering the infinite in the abstract, this point was crossing it in the concrete.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 20417 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
