What is HIP 19511
A yellow star, spectral cousin of the Sun though older and far more distant, rests in Eridanus some two hundred and eighty-six light years away. Its light peeled away around the years when James Watt was patenting his improved steam engine and opening the door to a new industrial age. It arrives now with the same warmth with which it set out.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 19511 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
