Variable starIts story
Along the long course of Eridanus burns a variable blue star some 1,517 light-years away. Its light set out around the year 509, when Visigothic kingdoms were dividing ancient Hispania and the Mediterranean world was reconfiguring after Rome's fall. Intensely hot and blue-white, its glow undulates subtly —a reminder that even the most energetic stars do not escape change.
