A muted orange along the channel of Eridanus, the celestial river, this K giant pours its light from 500 light-years. What we see tonight departed when Luther was nailing his 95 theses to the door at Wittenberg and European Christendom was splitting in two. HIP 18262 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
