What is Omega 1 Tauri
Omega-1 Tauri occupies a region of the Bull set apart from the famed Hyades cluster and the luminous patch of the Pleiades. It is an orange K-type giant some 284 light-years away —an aged, swollen star that has crossed the thresholds of its evolution. Its warm light blends with a background of lesser stars, in a constellation whose zodiacal body holds some of the winter sky's most celebrated stellar landmarks.
Where it is and when to see it
Omega 1 Tauri lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
