In the deep marches of Taurus, nearly 3,000 light-years away, beats a young blue B-type star lost in one of the densest, dustiest regions of the firmament. Its light set out when, in the heart of the Middle Ages, the Andalusi caliphates were preserving Greek astronomy and translating Ptolemy. Far more massive and luminous than the Sun, its glow travels nearly a millennium to meet us.

HIP 25950 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is December: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
