Highly luminous starIts story
130 Tauri is a yellow-white F-type beacon set roughly 1782 light-years away on the far reaches of Taurus. That it can still be glimpsed at magnitude 5.47 across such an immense gulf reveals an output thousands of times beyond the Sun's —the mark of a luminous supergiant. The light arriving tonight left its surface during the closing centuries of the Roman Empire, long before the mechanical clock was invented.
