35 Eridani burns as a blue B-class star about 414 light-years away, along the long celestial course of the river Eridanus. B stars are young and very hot, with surface temperatures well above the Sun s and relatively brief lives. The light reaching us tonight left in the early seventeenth century, when Kepler was publishing his laws of planetary motion.
Where it is and when to see it
35 Eridani lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
