What is HIP 18199
In the southern Horologium shines at 351.1 light years an orange class K star. Its light set out around 1675, just as the Royal Observatory of Greenwich was being founded, the place that would end up dictating the time of the planet. A star with an apparently warm surface, cooler than the Sun, blinking silently over the small pendulum-shaped constellation.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 18199 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
