Gam

Its story

Gamma Horologii is a yellow G-type star about 183 light-years away, set in the small Clock constellation that Lacaille named in the eighteenth century to honour the precision of pendulum clocks. It is an older sibling of the Sun, already somewhat evolved, with a luminosity several times that of our own star. Its quiet brightness slips easily unnoticed among the more spectacular southern constellations, but it belongs to that silent family of yellow stars that offer the best possible mirror for imagining the Sun's future.
