What is HIP 16780
Along the long course of Eridanus, the celestial river winding southward, shines a yellow G-type star at 378 light-years. It is a cousin in colour and temper to our Sun, though its light set out when the Dutch were signing the Peace of Westphalia in 1648 and modern Europe was being born. Looking at it is glimpsing another sun in nearly the same tone as ours.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 16780 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November, when it culminates around midnight.

It can be seen from anywhere south of 79° N.
