π Tucanae shines within the Toucan, a southern constellation drawn by Dutch navigators at the end of the 16th century, which also hosts the Small Magellanic Cloud —a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way—. A hot blue B-type star some 318 light-years away, her light traverses a field populated by distant objects of the deep southern hemisphere.

Pi Tucanae lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
