Mu Arietis
What is Mu Arietis
Mu Arietis is a white star about three hundred and eighty light-years away, one of the faint markers that extend the silhouette of the Ram beyond its bright head. Its light, soft but steady, crosses a region of the sky through which the Sun appears to pass each spring, symbolically opening the zodiac's cycle. It set out for us when Hernán Cortés first laid eyes upon Tenochtitlán.
Where it is and when to see it
Mu Arietis lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is November: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
