What is HIP 117567

Unnamed in Aquarius, this orange star has been travelling for 455 years. Its light set off when Philip II was inaugurating El Escorial, symbol of the Habsburg empire. Cooler than the Sun yet already considerably larger, it is a K-type that has begun to swell toward the giant state. Its golden glow melts in among the little stars that trace the ancient figure of the celestial water-bearer.

Where it is and when to see it

HIP 117567 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
