What is HIP 108102
Within the tilted urn of Aquarius shines an orange type K star, cooler and ruddier than the Sun. Its light took roughly 293 years to reach us: it set out when Bach premiered his St Matthew Passion and European astronomers still debated the elliptical shape of planetary orbits. It now appears as a tempered ember beneath the mythic stream of water that the water-bearer pours eternally across the autumn skies.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 108102 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
