Sadalsuud, «the luckiest of the lucky» for medieval Arab astrologers, rises in Aquarius, the water-bearer. It is a rare yellow supergiant of class G, thousands of times more luminous than the Sun, lying 537 light years away. Its light set out shortly before Columbus crossed the Atlantic and travels for centuries before reaching a human eye.
