What is HIP 117314
A temperate orange in the water-bearer's stream, in Aquarius, some 305 light-years away. Its light departed when Peter the Great was modernising Russia and explorers were beginning to chart the South Pacific. It arrives now like a warm drop in the cold current of the autumn sky: small, patient, faithful to its place among the urns of Aquarius.
Where it is and when to see it
HIP 117314 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
