What is 73 Pegasi
73 Pegasi is an orange K-type giant 290 light-years away, perched on the edge of the great winged horse of the autumn sky. Pegasus presides over the northern autumn with its famous Square, and this star lies beyond it, in a region the eye visits less often. Its light departed in the mid-eighteenth century, at the height of the European Enlightenment.
Where it is and when to see it
73 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
