What is Veritate

Veritate, 'truth' in Latin, was given its modern name in 2014 through a public naming campaign organised by the International Astronomical Union. It is a K-type orange giant lying in Andromeda, about 258 light-years away, and hosts at least one planet detected through radial-velocity measurements. The light arriving tonight set out around 1768, the year Captain Cook left on his first Pacific voyage.

Where it is and when to see it

Veritate lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is October: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
