What is HIP 114449

In Pegasus soars an orange type-K star 507 light-years away. Its light departed in the sixteenth century, when Magellan and Elcano completed the first circumnavigation of the world and proved with their sails that the Earth was round. Cooler than the Sun but more voluminous, its copper glow is that of giants in their autumn —a slow flame that has ridden five hundred years upon the wings of Pegasus.

HIP 114449 lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 56° above the horizon.
From New York it culminates about 67° above the horizon.
From Sydney it culminates about 39° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere north of 72° S.
