4 Pegasi rests along the flank of the Winged Horse, about 178 light-years away. It is a young, white A-type star, hotter than the Sun, with the clean, almost metallic light typical of its spectral class. The radiation tracing its outline tonight set out around 1848 —the year of Europe's revolutions— and has travelled quietly while astronomy itself was turning modern.
