What is 4 Pegasi
4 Pegasi rests along the flank of the Winged Horse, about 178 light-years away. It is a young, white A-type star, hotter than the Sun, with the clean, almost metallic light typical of its spectral class. The radiation tracing its outline tonight set out around 1848 —the year of Europe's revolutions— and has travelled quietly while astronomy itself was turning modern.
Where it is and when to see it
4 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
