89 Aquarii shines blue-white from 504 light-years, an A-type star whose surface temperature would make the Sun look like a yellow ember. Its light, which left Aquarius in the late Renaissance, has crossed the clean space between us to surface at magnitude 4.71 against the closer weave of stars in the Water Bearer. It belongs to that generation of fast, pristine suns that have not yet begun to age.

89 Aquarii lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September, when it culminates around midnight.

From London it culminates about 16° above the horizon.

From Sydney it culminates about 79° above the horizon.

It can be seen from anywhere south of 68° N.
