Gamma Piscis Austrini shines with white light some 215 light-years away, within the small constellation of the Southern Fish. An A-type star, it shares the sky with the dazzling Fomalhaut, which always eclipses it in the popular imagination. Yet through a modest telescope this gamma emerges as a firm and elegant point —a discreet companion to the «Lonely Eye» of the southern autumn sky.
