Homam is a hot blue star on the neck of Pegasus, its name drawn from an Arabic phrase associated with «the lucky horse». At 204 light-years, its blue-white light reaches us from a century when constellations were still learned from handwritten almanacs. Modest but unmistakable, it serves as a hinge between the great rectangle of Pegasus and the fainter stars marking the horse's head.
Where it is and when to see it
Homam lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is September: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
