In Tucana, the small southern constellation of exotic birds, shines an orange star. Its light crossed some 852 years before reaching us: it set out around 1174, when Saladin took Damascus and the leaning tower of Pisa was being raised. Cooler than the Sun, its coppery glow seems to slide between the feathers of a toucan sketched in the southern sky.

HIP 111967 lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight.
