Variable star

Its story

Within Cygnus, a white A-type star wavers in brightness with an almost imperceptible pulse. It is hotter and more luminous than the Sun, and its light departed five centuries ago, when Magellan and Elcano were completing the first circumnavigation of the planet. Across 493 light-years its glow trembled while the Earth was closing over itself like a map, and arrives now bearing the trace of that voyage which proved, once and for all, that the world was round.
