Delta Indus
What is Delta Indus
Delta Indi is a yellow-white subgiant about 188 light-years away, in the southern constellation of the Indian, one of the figures Dutch navigators of the late sixteenth century drew while charting the unknown southern skies. Recent spectra suggest it is actually two stars — an A8 and an F3 — too close to separate with small telescopes. A single point of light to the eye, two engines burning within.
Where it is and when to see it
Delta Indus lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
