Eta Indus
What is Eta Indus
Eta Indi is a white A-type star only 79 light-years away, a relatively close neighbor in the small constellation of the Indian. Lacaille placed it in his southern atlas among allegorical figures of distant peoples. Modest to the unaided eye, its cosmic proximity nonetheless makes it one of the nearby suns in our patch of the Galaxy, a sharp white light in a seldom-visited fragment of the sky.
Where it is and when to see it
Eta Indus lies in the southern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is July: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
