What is 11 Pegasi
11 Pegasi is a white A-type star kindled some 569 light-years away, along the western flank of the Winged Horse. Hotter and more luminous than the Sun, it pours out the clean, bluish light that betrays young hydrogen suns. The light crossing the eyepiece tonight set out toward the mid-fifteenth century —the years when Europe was rediscovering the geographers of antiquity— and only now completes the path to the constellations of northern autumn.
Where it is and when to see it
11 Pegasi lies in the northern celestial hemisphere. It is visible to the naked eye under a dark sky. Its best month of the year is August: the Sun sits at the opposite point of the sky and the star culminates around midnight. How high it climbs above the horizon depends on the latitude you watch from.
